Singer 45K66 Heavy Duty Cylinder Bed Leather Harness Sewing Machine w Roller Ft
This is a very heavy and powerful roller feed sewing machine used for heavier leathers and canvas as well as things like straps rubbber and thin metal, rubber. It can sew in rigid non brittle plastics but as it was not produced as that considering these plastics polymers were not invented for another 25 yrs. This would usually be put on a Cylinder bed table or stand with or without a cut out in front of the machine's pillar. It can be run by either a clutch or more modern servo motor or placed on an appropriate industrial treadle bench.
The machine is heavy cast iron with heavier drive shafts and gearing than the average Industrial leather sewing machine. It has an extra large heavy hand / belt wheel for driving the needle through heavy material's. Not all class 45's have this size handwheel. It uses a fairly common Industrial needle which comes in various sizes to accommodate different wt threads and materials. The Singer 45K class machine's were made in the UK.
A few versions were also made in Germany. The production started in 1896 and continued at least into the mid 1950's. This particular machine was produces in July of 1916. Gas heating device for hot wax stitching. It was brought over from Europe by an Italian boot maker about 45 tears ago, and has been used until the boot and harness shop closed around 8 yrs.It had been in his home shop until he passed. The serial number for the machine listed here is F 7115891 Dating it to approx. Condition: The machine has recently been serviced and set up with a new roller foot.
It was sew tested by a Sewing machine mechanic. I have done no further testing. It will come with a few extra needles and a manual on a thumb drive.Additional bobbins and even replacement bobbin cases are readily available for this machine. The style bobbin is a large shuttle style. The common thread used at the time of manufacture was a non pre lubricated Linen or cotton.
This machine would have and can be set up with various styles of wax or oil thread lubricating pots. Non of these are currently being offered in this sale.
